SAN FRANCISCO – A Palo Alto man and editor of International Salsa Magazine alleges his reputation was damaged by his friend's former girlfriend.

Eduardo Guilarte filed a complaint on April 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Andrea Monti, Marriott International Inc., city of Buenos Aires and Does 1-10 citing slander per se, false light and trademark infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in April 5, 2015, he attended the Argentine Tango USA Championship and Festival using a valid ticket. He alleges he was forcefully removed by Marriott security personnel because Monti claimed he was at the event as a spy for his friend, her former boyfriend, and accused him of trespassing. The plaintiff holds Monti, Marriott International Inc., the city of Buenos Aires and Does 1-10 responsible because Monti's allegedly false accusations were made in front of several people against plaintiff. He also alleges the defendants continued to use the logo for his magazine without his permission.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks general and special damages according to proof, order for the defendant to deliver all infringing materials for destruction, all profits derived from infringing plaintiff's trademark, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by Amy Sommer Anderson of Aroplex Law in San Francisco.
