Woman accuses Standard Insurance Co. of wrongfully terminating benefits

Insurance 01

LOS ANGELES – A word processor alleges she was wrongfully terminated from receiving disability benefits.

Sharon Hatch filed a complaint on Aug. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Standard Insurance Co. and Does 1 to 10 alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that since Sept. 12, 2012, she was paid disability benefits but that the benefits were terminated on March 9 by the defendant. The plaintiff holds Standard Insurance Co. and Does 1 to 10 responsible because the defendant allegedly denied further payment for plaintiff's disability benefits despite plaintiff still being disabled and having sufficient medical proof to support her claim.

The plaintiff seeks damages, benefits payable to plaintiff at the rate of $2,897.65 per month from April 20 to the present and continuing, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Bernard R. Schwam of Law Offices of Bernard R. Schwam in Encino.
