Orange County man allegedly did not pay back education loan

LOS ANGELES – The federal government has filed suit against an Orange County man alleging he failed to pay back a student loan.

United States of America, acting on behalf of the Department of Education, filed a complaint on Aug. 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Richard L. Guerrero Jr. alleging that the individual failed to pay his debt to plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges Guerrero Jr. failed to settle his student loan debt to plaintiff that fell into default in 1998.

The plaintiff seeks principal amount of $3,256.57, interest of $1,044.91 plus ongoing interest at the rate of 8 percent per annum accruing at 71 cents per day, all legal fees, surcharge of 10 percent of the amount of the debt, and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by William I. Goldsmith, Jack D. Hull and Michael L. Goldsmith of Goldsmith & Hull APC in Northridge.
