LOS ANGELES — A man has filed suit against the U.S. government and others for alleged medical negligence and misdiagnosis after he was incorrectly told his kidneys were failing while as a patient at a Veterans Affairs Medical Hospital.

Zeddrick F. White filed a complaint on Aug. 24 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against the U.S. government and Does 1-10, alleging that they failed to exercise standard care.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 20, 2015, he was evaluated at the Veterans Affairs Medical Hospital. He was called back by a primary caregiver assigned to him on suspicions of kidney failure and vitamin D toxicity. He reportedly underwent a series of processes and tests, but was never given a diagnosis of his kidneys and was told that he supposedly tested positive for HIV when he had not approved of the administering of such a test. When he acquired a second opinion, the results purportedly refuted the initial diagnosis, which caused the plaintiff to incur medical expenses, was forced to endure pain, suffering and mental anguish, and suffer the loss of the enjoyment of life and lost wages.

The plaintiff holds the U.S. government and Does 1-10 responsible because the defendants allegedly breached their duty by negligently hiring incompetent staff, failed to provide a level of care and skill for the plaintiff, and failed to retain only adequately trained staff in order to meet their standards of quality care.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in his favor, medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, future impairment, and loss of enjoyment of life totaling $10,000,000, costs of suit, attorney's fees and additional relief as determined by the court. He is representing himself as attorney-pro-se.
