LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles consumer alleges a Marietta debt collector failed to update his credit report after paying off a debt.

Dejuan Dangerfield filed a complaint on Sept. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Focus Receivables Management LLC citing the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in March, he contacted the defendant and paid in full a debt that had been sent to it for collection. The plaintiff holds Focus Receivables Management LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly update plaintiff's credit report that the debt had been paid. The suit states as of August, the account was still marked as in collection.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks $1,000 as statutory damages, $5,000 as punitive damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by F. Jay Rahimi of The Law Offices of F. Jay Rahimi in Woodland Hills and Joshua B. Swigart and Sara Khosroabadi of Hyde & Swigart in San Diego.
