Turkish corporation accuses Hasbro of stealing its mobile game

SAN FRANCISCO — A Turkish corporation is suing Hasbro Inc. and Backflip Studios LLC, developer, citing alleged copyright infringement.

Peak Oyun Yazilim ve Pazarlama AS d/b/a Peak Games filed a complaint on Oct. 21, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against the defendants alleging that they violated laws by unauthorized distribution of an intellectual property.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Peak Oyun Yazilim ve Pazarlama AS d/b/a Peak Games owns an original and popular game, Toy Blast, that has become one of the highest grossing mobile games. The defendants set out to develop a clone, which the defendants attempted to conceal under its My Little Pony brand that was released Oct.13, and as a result, plaintiff suffered injuries to its reputation and goodwill. 

The plaintiff holds Hasbro Inc. and Backflip Studios LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly attempted to steal a share of the market by cloning a leading game, and have realized profits, gains and advantages as a result of its infringement.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in its favor, preliminary and/or permanent injunction, profits from infringement, costs of suit, interest and further relief that may be entitled. They are represented by Jennifer L. Kelly and Liwen A. Mah of Fenwick & West LLP in San Francisco and Eric Ball and Kunyu Ching of Fenwick & West LLP in Mountain View.
