Patents 07

SAN FRANCISCO – A governing board of the University of California claims a Massachusetts company has infringed its patented medical technology.

The Regents of the University of California filed a complaint on Oct. 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Boston Scientific Corp. alleging that the Massachusetts corporation infringes plaintiff's patents involving the method of treating atrial fibrillation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages as the result of the infringement. The plaintiff holds Boston Scientific Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly manufactured catheters and other medical devices that infringe the plaintiff's patented technology.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages, enhanced damages, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by Mark T. Jansen, Pilar R. Stillwater and Galen P. Sallomi of Crowell & Moring LLP in San Francisco and Kathryn L. Clune and Ali H.K. Tehrani of Crowell & Moring LLP in Washington, D.C.
