Woman alleged to have defaulted on student loan

LOS ANGELES – The federal government alleges a San Bernardino County resident has defaulted on a student loan.

United States of America filed a complaint on Nov. 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Velda Harris, also known as Velda Jeanne Auguste, alleging that the individual failed to settle her debt with the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Harris failed to pay the principal amount of her debt plus interest.

The plaintiff seeks principal amount of $1,000 plus interest of $445.34 with further interest at 3 percent per annum accruing at 8 cents per day, administrative charges of $87, surcharge of 10 percent of the amount of the debt owed, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. It is represented by William I. Goldsmith, Jack D. Hull and Michael L. Goldsmith of Goldsmith & Hull in Northridge.
