LOS ANGELES – A Van Nuys company is accused of manufacturing microdermabrasion devices that infringe another company's patent.
Altair Instruments Inc. filed a complaint on Feb. 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Shanika Inc., doing business as Classic SPA Collection, and Does 1 through 10 alleging patent infringement.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages to its business from having its patent infringed. The plaintiff holds Shanika Inc., doing business as Classic SPA Collection, and Does 1 through 10 responsible because the defendants allegedly sell the Diamond Micro Dermabrasion devices, which the plaintiff claims infringes at least one claim of its '739 patent.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks injunction, damages, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. It is represented by Ronald P. Oines, Benjamin C. Deming and Kathryn Domin of Rutan & Tucker LLP in Costa Mesa.
