Consumer claims Auto Meter Products fails to warn of chemical hazards on products

SAN FRANCISCO – A consumer claims a business selling automotive parts does not disclose the health hazards of certain chemicals on its products per state law.

Peter Englander filed a complaint on April 5 in the San Francisco County Superior Court against Auto Meter Products Inc. and Does 1-150 alleging violation of health and safety codes.

According to the complaint, the defendant sells spring clips (battery terminal clamps) that have di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalatc (DEHP) in the grips and chord components of battery extender products. The plaintiff alleges that DEHP is a toxic chemical recognized by the state as known to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm, and that the defendants do not warn consumers of the health hazards.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks assess civil penalties against the defendant in the amount of $2,500 per day for each violation, enjoin the defendant, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Clifford A. Chanler and Brian Johnson of The Chanler Group in Berkeley.
