Woman seeks reinstatement of benefits from Sun Life Assurance Co. of Canada

Insurance 05

LOS ANGELES – An Orange County woman alleges she is still disabled and that her benefits were wrongfully terminated.

Emily Sung filed a complaint on June 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Sun Life Assurance Co. of Canada alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she became disabled due to a stroke in 2013 and was initially paid disability benefits until the defendant terminated benefits in 2016. The plaintiff holds Sun Life Assurance Co. of Canada responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated plaintiff's disability benefits despite having sufficient evidence of her disability.

The plaintiff seeks plan benefits due and owing, all legal fees, and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Robert F. Keehn of Law Office of Robert F. Keehn in Los Angeles.
