SACRAMENTO – A woman formerly employed as a physical and massage therapist alleges that her insurer wrongfully terminated her disability benefits.

Donna Rader filed a complaint on June 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America and Does 1 to 100 alleging breach of contract and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she applied for disability benefits in 2013 and received benefits until they were terminated in July 2015. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Co. of America and Does 1 to 100 responsible because the defendants allegedly terminated plaintiff's benefits despite still being disabled.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks full benefits, interest, economic and consequential damages, general damages, punitive and exemplary damages, all legal fees, interest, special and general damages, and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by David Allen of David Allen & Associates in Sacramento.
