Woman seeks reinstatement of disability benefits from Unum Life Insurance Co. of America

Insurance 05

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles County resident alleges that her disability benefits were unlawfully terminated.

Marta Bonnin filed a complaint on June 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America and Hinderliter, Dellamas & Associates Plan alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she stopped working in December 2014 and applied for disability benefits with the defendants. The suit states her benefits were terminated in August 2016.

The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Co. of America and Hinderliter, Dellamas & Associates Plan responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide a prompt and reasonable explanation for its denial of her benefits.

The plaintiff seeks payment of disability benefits due to the plaintiff, reinstatement to the plan, all legal fees, interest and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Glenn R. Kantor, Alan E. Kassan and Mitchell O. Hefter of Kantor & Kantor LLP in Northridge.
