SACRAMENTO — A Modesto man is suing is suing a security business, alleging racial discrimination, retaliation, and violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Adesoji Adewumi filed a complaint Aug. 18 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against GHS Interactive Security, LLC, Anthony Villanueva, Victoria Fox, alleging they denied the plaintiff's rights to FMLA.

According to the complaint, Adewumi, who worked installing security alarms and cameras for the defendant between October 2015 and November 2016, suffered damages from experiencing discrimination due to his race and African background. 

The plaintiff alleges the defendants denied his request for a FMLA protected leave and instead terminated his employment in November 2016.

Adewumi seeks trial by jury, reinstatement and reimbursement for lost wages and benefits, general damages, punitive damages, liquidated damages, legal fees, interest and all other relief the court deems just. He is represented by attorney Jessica M. Jewell of California Rural Legal Assistance Inc. in Modesto.
