Chase Bank accused of violating TCPA

LOS ANGELES — A Riverside County man is suing Chase Bank, alleging violation of telephone harassment statutes.

Nathan Thew filed a complaint Aug. 22 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Chase Bank USA NA, alleging the defendant illegally called the plaintiff several times in an attempt to collect an alleged debt collector, violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

According to the complaint, in 2015, Thew suffered damages from receiving several collection calls from Chase. The plaintiff alleges Chase Bank illegally used an automatic dialing system to contact the plaintiff's cellular telephone, which caused him to get charged.

Thew seeks trial by jury, $500 in statutory damages, $1,500 in treble damages, $1,000 in statutory damages for violations of California's civil code, interest, legal fees, punitive damages and all other relief the court deems just.
