SAN FRANCISCO — A former organ transplant patient has filed suit against an insurance firm for allegedly terminating her long-term disability payments.

Lisa Aguilar filed a complaint Aug. 24 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Liberty Life Insurance Co. of Boston, alleging that the insurance firm terminated the plaintiff's claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 11, 2012, she became disabled and was initially being paid disability benefits until it was terminated effective on May 6, 2015. The plaintiff holds Liberty Life Insurance Co. of Boston responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated the plaintiff's disability benefits despite still being disabled and purportedly relied on surveillance video to make such a decision.

The plaintiff seeks the defendant to pay long-term disability benefits to the plaintiff plus interest on all unpaid benefits, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems appropriate. She is represented by Robert J. Rosati of ERISA Law Group LLP in Fresno.
