Department of Education alleges Los Angeles County resident owes on loan

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles County resident is alleged to have defaulted on a student loan.

United States of America, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education, filed a complaint on Aug. 31 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Kim Bivens, also known as Kim Barnes, alleging that the individual failed to settle her debt with plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Bivens failed to pay the principal amount of her debt to it, plus interest.

The plaintiff seeks principal amount of $2,566.19 plus interest of $720.50 and ongoing interest at 8 percent per annum at 56 cents per day, administrative charges of $6.71, and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by William I. Goldsmith and Michael L. Goldsmith of Goldsmith & Hull APC in Northridge.
