Patents 03

SANTA ANA — A California company has filed suit against another electronics company for alleged patent infringement.

Universal Electronics Inc. filed a complaint Sept. 8 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Southern Division, against Universal Remote Control Inc., Ohsung Electronics Co. Ltd, and Ohsung Electronics U.S.A. Inc., alleging that they sold devices and software that infringed upon the plaintiff's patents.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Universal Electronics Inc. suffered damages due to having its patent being infringed. The plaintiff holds Universal Remote Control Inc., Ohsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and Ohsung Electronics U.S.A. Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly continued to infringe the plaintiff's patents through the distribution of their products despite having knowledge of the infringement.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages, lost profits, interest, enhanced damages, permanent injunction, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by Mark A. Finkelstein of Jones Day in Irvine.
