Woman claims Liberty Life Assurance Co. of Boston wrongfully denied her claim for long-term disability

Insurance 11

SAN FRANCISCO — A woman has filed suit against a life insurance company she claims wrongfully denied her long-term disability payments.

Cathy Lebendig filed a complaint Sept. 16 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, San Francisco Division, against Liberty Life Assurance Co. of Boston, alleging that the insurance firm denied the plaintiff's claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 9, 2015, she became disabled due to several medical conditions that required hospitalization, and was initially being paid disability benefits until they were terminated. The plaintiff holds Liberty Life Assurance Co. of Boston responsible because the defendant allegedly denied any further claims for the plaintiff's disability benefits despite having adequate medical records to support her claim.

The plaintiff seeks repayment of disability benefits plus interest, reinstatement to the plan, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Cassie Springer Ayeni of Springer Ayeni APLC in Oakland.
