Woman alleges Anthem Life Insurance failed to properly investigate benefit claim

Insurance 08

LOS ANGELES – A former ReachLocal Inc. employee claims that her claim for disability benefits was wrongfully denied.

Norma Binkley filed a complaint on June 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Anthem Life Insurance Co. and ReachLocal Inc. Welfare Plan citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she became disabled in 2013 and filed for disability benefits, which were denied. The plaintiff holds Anthem Life Insurance Co. and ReachLocal Inc. Welfare Plan responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide and prompt and reasonable explanation for the denial of her benefits and failed to properly investigate the merits of her claim.

The plaintiff seeks payment of disability benefits, immediate reinstatement, ancillary benefits, all legal fees, interest and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Glenn R. Kantor and Corinne Chandler of Kantor & Kantor LLP in Northridge.
