SAN FRANCISCO — A San Jose software design business is suing a San Diego competitor, alleging copyright infringement.

Cadence Design Systems Inc. filed a complaint Aug. 15 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Pounce Consulting Inc., alleging the defendant illegally copied the plaintiff's software without consent.

According to the complaint, Cadence Design suffered damages to its business as the result of its software being illegally copied and used without its consent. The plaintiff alleges Pounce Consulting illegally used "cracked" versions of the Cadence software and failed to respond to Cadence Design's offer to resolve the matter without resorting to litigation.

Cadence Design Systems seeks trial by jury, enjoin the defendant, compensatory and actual damages, profits, statutory damages, order to impound all infringing copies of the plaintiff's software, restitution, legal fees, interest and all other relief the court deems just. It is represented by attorney Guy Ruttenberg of Ruttenberg IP Law in Los Angeles.
