San Diego corporation accuses insurer of breach of contract

SAN DIEGO — A San Diego corporation is suing an insurance company, alleging breach of contract.

A.O. Reed & Co. filed a complaint Feb. 1 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California against Catlin Specialty Insurance Company, alleging the defendant denied insurance coverage without reasonable basis.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 4, 2015, after receiving a complaint brought by Coastal Environmental Rights Foundation (CERF), A.O. Reed says it failed to receive any protection as insured from the defendant, to which it paid more than $400,000 in premiums to secure coverage designed to protect against various allegations.

The plaintiff alleges Catlin Specialty Insurance refused to perform its contractual obligations in connection with the CERF action.

A.O. Reed seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, cost of suit, pre- and post-judgment interest, and all other relief the court deems just. It is represented by attorneys Marc D. Halpern and Leslie A. Pereira of Abelson Herron Halpern LLP in Los Angeles.
