SAN FRANCISCO — A California resident has filed a class action lawsuit against a dog food producer for alleged deception involving not properly disclosing the country of origin of its dog food.

Adrienne Fraser filed a lawsuit against Fromm Family Foods, LLC and 25 unknown employees on Jan. 5 in the Northern District of California District Court for the alleged violations of California Unfair Competition Law and California Consumers Legal Remedies Act.

According to the suit, Fromm Family Foods labels its pet food as “Made in the U.S.A.” The lawsuit states the labels are misleading because certain ingredients are sourced from other countries. Most specifically, the vitamin, mineral and amino acid packs in the food contain ingredients from non-U.S.A. sources. According to the lawsuit consumers who generally buy pet food made in the U.S. do so because in 2007 there was a widespread recall of China-made pet food that caused kidney failure in cats and dogs.

Fraser is seeking an injunction ordering Fromm to stop the violations, an award of monetary relief and an award of the costs of the suit. Rains Lucia Stern, PC represent the plaintiff.
