SAN FRANCISCO – A San Francisco business has filed suit against unknown internet users alleging they attacked its commerce site and demanded ransom.

Ebates Inc. filed a complaint on April 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Does 1-211, owners of email addresses elizabeth52863@hotmail.com, sienna8763@ymail.com and ellie65226@ymail.com, et al., citing violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, conversion and trespass.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in April 1 its primary e-commerce domain was shut down for six hours as a result of a distributed denial of service attack. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly sent the plaintiff a series of demands for ransom payments paid in Bitcoin.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury, monetary damages to be proven in trial but in excess of $100,000, an order to pay plaintiff damages to be proven in trial plus interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by Thomas V. Christopher of The Law Offices of Thomas V. Christopher in San Francisco.
