SAN DIEGO – A San Diego resident alleges a claim hasn't been settled after an accident with a government vehicle.
Alexandra Elizabeth Shields filed a complaint on Aug. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California against United States of America and Francisco Javier Sanchez Lopez alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in June 23, 2015, she was traveling on her motorcycle on 28th Street. The suit states that Lopez, who was driving a U.S. Navy-owned vehicle, made an abrupt lane change, causing plaintiff to strike the curb and a traffic pole. The plaintiff was ejected, the suit states, and police confirmed Lopez caused the accident. She alleges she submitted a claim to the U.S. Navy for administrative settlement in October 2015 but the agency has purportedly failed to make a final disposition.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks general damages, special damages, medical expenses, property damage, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by George R. Kindley and Henry Harmeling of The Kindley Firm APC in San Diego.
