LOS ANGELES --  A California garment manufacturer has filed suit against a group of retailers for alleged copyright infringement.

Universal Dyeing & Printing, Inc. filed a complaint on Aug. 24 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Nordstrom Inc., Wilster Apparel Group LLC and Does 1 through 10, alleging that they manufacture fabrics bearing a similar design to the plaintiff's fabrics.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages as the result of the infringement of their copyrighted designs. The plaintiff holds Nordstrom Inc., Wilster Apparel Group LLC and Does 1 through 10 responsible because the defendants allegedly distribute garments to retailers that contain the plaintiff's copyrighted designs.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks to enjoin the defendants from further infringing the plaintiff's copyrighted designs, award all profits to the plaintiff, statutory damages, all legal fee and interest, and any other relief as the court deems appropriate. It is represented by Stephen M. Doniger, Scott A. Burroughs and Frank Gregory Casella of Doniger/Burroughs in Venice.
