Woman allegedly failed to pay off debt to U.S. government

LOS ANGELES - The U.S. government has filed suit against a woman for allegedly failing to pay her student loans. 

The U.S. government filed a complaint Aug. 31 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Christine Villigan Bruce, also known as Christine Badgley, alleging that the individual failed to settle her debt to the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the U.S. government suffered damages due to unpaid debt. The plaintiff holds Christine Villigan Bruce responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to pay the principal amount of her debt to the plaintiff plus interest.

The plaintiff seeks the principal amount of $2,820.89 plus interest of $1,403.87 and ongoing interest of 8 percent per annum at $0.62 per day, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems appropriate. It is represented by William I. Goldsmith and Michael L. Goldsmith of Goldsmith & Hull A.P.C. in Northridge.
