Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. allegedly incorrectly cancels man's long-term disability payments

Insurance 05

SAN FRANCISCO — A man has filed suit against an insurance company for allegedly terminating his long-term disability payments despite supporting evidence.

Justin Emerson filed a complaint on Sept. 2 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., alleging that the insurance firm denied the plaintiff's claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2013, he became disabled and was initially being paid disability benefits until they were terminated on Sept. 11, 2015. The plaintiff holds Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated the plaintiff's disability benefits despite having sufficient evidence to support his claim.

The plaintiff seeks all benefits owed plus interest, to declare the plaintiff's rights to receive future disability benefits, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Brian H. Kim and James P. Keenley of Bolt Keenley Kim LLP in Berkeley.
