SAN DIEGO — A California business has filed suit against an unidentified party for allegedly distributing the company's copyrighted movies without permission.
Malibu Media LLC filed a complaint July 28 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California against John Doe, subscriber assigned IP address 76.93.177.163, alleging that the subscriber distributed the plaintiff's copyrighted movies without authorization from the plaintiff.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that Malibu Media LLC suffered damages from having its property distributed without permission. The plaintiff holds John Doe, subscriber assigned IP address 76.93.177.163, responsible because the defendant allegedly used a BitTorrent file distribution network to distribute downloaded copies of the plaintiff's movies.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks to permanently enjoin the defendant from further infringing upon the plaintiff's property, order the defendant to delete all media relating to the plaintiff's works, statutory damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just.
