SANTA ANA — An individual is suing Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc., a California business, citing alleged copyright infringement.
Ronald Burns filed a complaint on Oct. 17, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. alleging that the California business created a derivative work of "Alex" without plaintiff's permission.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he suffered damages from having his painting copied and displayed without his consent. The plaintiff holds Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly created a similar work of plaintiff's painting of Alex.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual, compensatory, statutory damages, interest, disgorgement, all legal fees, injunctive relief, and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by Neville L. Johnson, James T. Ryan and Jordanna G. Thigpen of Johnson & Johnson LLP in Beverly Hills.
