SAN JOSE – A Santa Cruz County man has filed a suit seeking payment of his pension benefits.

Robert Meakin filed a complaint on Dec. 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, San Jose Division against California Ironworkers Field Pension Trust and the board of trustees of the California Ironworkers Field Pension Trust citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that his pension benefits were illegally suspended in April 2014. The plaintiff holds California Ironworkers Field Pension Trust and the board of trustees of the California Ironworkers Field Pension Trust responsible because the defendants allegedly denied his appeal, refused to provide requested documentation to support their termination of his benefits.

The plaintiff seeks payment of the benefits owed plus interest, all legal fees, statutory penalties, any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by James P. Keenley and Brian H. Kim of Bolt Keenley Kim LLP in Berkeley.
