Unum Life Insurance accused of breaching Employee Retirement Income Security Act

Insurance 08

LOS ANGELES – A man has filed suit over allegations that his claim for long-term disability benefits was wrongfully denied.

Arshak Kouladjian filed a complaint on Jan. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America and Master Recovery Auto Insurance Auction Inc. Long Term Disability Plan alleging breach of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2012, he became disabled and was initially paid short-term disability benefits but was denied when he applied for long-term disability benefits. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Co. of America and Master Recovery Auto Insurance Auction Inc. Long Term Disability Plan responsible because the defendants allegedly refused to pay long-term disability benefits to the plaintiff despite having overwhelming evidence of his disability.

The plaintiff seeks payments of disability benefits due to the plaintiff, reinstatement of long-term benefits and order that the plaintiff is eligible to receive future disability benefits, all legal fees plus interest and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Zorik Mooradian of Law Offices of Zorik Mooradian in Calabasas.
