Woman seeks disability benefits from Life Insurance Co. of North America

Insurance 01

LOS ANGELES – A former outpatient clinic manager for Community Memorial Health System alleges her disability benefits were wrongfully terminated.

Bonnie Maruquin filed a complaint on Jan. 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Life Insurance Co. of North America alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in February 2013, she became disabled and was initially paid disability benefits until the benefits were denied in 2015. The plaintiff holds Life Insurance Co. of North America responsible because the defendant allegedly upheld its decision to deny further payment to the plaintiff for her disability benefits despite still being disabled according to the policy.

The plaintiff seeks award benefits to the plaintiff plus interest, all other benefits, future disability benefits, all legal fees and any other relief the court deems just. She is represented by Frank N. Darras, Lissa A. Martinez, Susan B. Grabarsky and Phillip S. Bather of Darras Law in Ontario.
