LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles County woman is seeking declaration from the court that she is entitled to disability benefits.
Dina Shapiro filed a complaint on March 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Aetna Life Insurance Co. Long Term Disability Plan; Aetna Life Insurance Co. in its capacity of administrator of the Aetna Life Insurance Co. Long Term Disability Plan citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2014, she became disabled and applied for disability benefits but her claim was denied. The suit states that the defendants determined that she did not meet the definition of disabled. She seeks a determination from the court that she is entitled to the benefits.
The plaintiff seeks order the defendant to pay long-term disability benefits to the plaintiff plus interest, enjoin the defendant, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Julia Sklar of Law Offices of Julia Sklar in Van Nuys.
