Woman accuses Metropolitan Life Insurance of wrongfully terminating benefits

SAN FRANCISCO – A Redwood City woman alleges that her long-term disability benefits were wrongfully terminated.

Alisa Ruddock filed a complaint on May 31 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she become disabled in 2013 due to depression and anxiety and applied for long-term disability benefits. She also alleges she suffers from injuries sustained in two separate auto accidents. The suit states she was approved for benefits by the defendant but that the benefits were terminated in August 2016.

The plaintiff holds Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated plaintiff's disability benefits despite having sufficient medical proof to support her claim.

The plaintiff seeks order the defendant to pay disability benefits to the plaintiff plus interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Cassie Springer Ayeni and Claire Kennedy-Wilkins of Springer Ayeni in Oakland.
