Woman files suit against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America after disability benefits were terminated

Insurance 07

SAN FRANCISCO – An Alaska woman alleges her disability benefits were terminated after receiving them for more than a decade.

Tina Seelinger filed a complaint on June 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America alleging that the insurance firm denied plaintiff's claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she became disabled in 2004 and initially received disability benefits from the defendant. The suit states that the benefits were terminated by the defendant in 2016.

The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Co. of America responsible because the defendant allegedly breached its obligation by denying her payments when she met the criteria that determined eligibility.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory damages, all legal fees, interest and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by P. Randall Noah of Law Offices of P. Randall Noah in Orinda.
