Man alleges short-term disability benefits were wrongfully denied by Metropolitan Life

Insurance 08

SAN FRANCISCO – A New Mexico man alleges his request for disability benefits was wrongfully denied.

Steven Zellers filed a complaint on June 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he became disabled from his job as a train systems engineer in September 2016. He alleges the defendant denied his claim for short-term disability benefits.

The plaintiff holds Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly refused to pay disability benefits to the plaintiff despite being disabled according to the terms of the plan.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory damages, all legal fees, and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by P. Randall Noah of Law Offices of P. Randall Noah in Orinda.
