FRESNO — A Fresno County guardian is suing  a local school district, alleging general negligence led to a child being sexually abused.

A.L., a minor, by and through her guardian ad litem, V.L. filed a complaint June 14 in Fresno County Superior Court against Kings Canyon Unified School District, Rigoberto Rangel and Does 1-50, alleging they violated the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.

According to the complaint, prior to Dec. 14, 2016, A.L. was sexually abused and molested by Rangel on numerous occasions on the campus of Orange Cove High School. The suit says A.L. suffered significant damage, including medical expenses, pain and suffering, embarrassment and emotional distress.

The plaintiff alleges the district fostered and maintained an environment of sexual abuse and molestation by failing to supervise its employees, including Rangel.

A.L. and V.L. seek trial by jury, special, punitive and general damages, court costs and attorney fees and all just and proper relief. They are represented by attorneys Warren R. Paboojian and Jason S. Bell of Baradat & Paboojian Inc. in Fresno.
