LOS ANGELES – A Seattle-based business and a Los Angeles-based business are alleged to have unlawfully used a textile design in clothing.

Standard Fabrics International Inc. filed a complaint on June 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Nordstrom Inc., Mimi Chica and Does 1 through 10 alleging copyright infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages to its business from having its 8039 fabric design copied without its consent. The plaintiff holds Nordstrom Inc., Mimi Chica and Does 1 through 10 responsible because the defendants allegedly sold or manufactured garments made out of fabrics that bear plaintiff's design.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks enjoin the defendants, damages and profits, statutory damages, all legal fees, interest and any other relief as the court deems just. It is represented by Stephen M. Doniger, Scott A. Burroughs, Trevor W. Barrett and Justin M. Gomes of Doniger/Burroughs in Venice.
