SACRAMENTO — A Shasta County woman has filed a class action lawsuit against a Georgia company, alleging invasion of privacy and violation of telephone harassment statutes.

Diane Morgan of Redding, California, filed a complaint, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, Aug. 24 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against Global Payments Check Services Inc., alleging the defendant illegally contacted the plaintiff several times and recorded most of those calls without her knowing.

According to the complaint, between 2016 and 2017, Morgan suffered damages from having her conversations recording without her consent.

Morgan seeks trial by jury, $5,000 per violation or three times actual damages per violation, enjoin the defendant, interest, legal fees and any other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorneys Abbas Kazerounian of Kazerouni Law Group, APC in Costa Mesa, California, and Joshua B. Swigart of Hyde & Swigart in San Diego.
