Policy holder alleges Met Life violated ERISA

Insurance 09

LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles County woman is suing Met Life, alleging breach of contract and violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

Traci L. Kanwa filed a complaint Sept. 13 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and Does 1 through 10, alleging they wrongfully denied her claim for life insurance benefits.

According to the complaint, Kanwa suffered damages as the result of being denied life insurance after her husband's death in an automobile crash in Nigeria in 2015. The plaintiff alleges the defendants upheld their decision to deny her claim despite Kanwa having sufficient proof of her husband's death.

Kanwa seeks damages for benefits of $26,000 due, legal fees and any other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorney James T. Hudson of Law Offices of James T. Hudson in Los Angeles.
