Wheelchair user alleges PLS Financial Services parking lot is not accessible

Wheelchair 04

LOS ANGELES – A wheelchair user alleges a Lawndale business has barriers that denied him full and equal access on the premises.

Nehemiah Kong filed a complaint on May 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Edward Gow Gee, Mary Wong Gee, PLS Financial Services Inc. and Does 1-10 alleging that they violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Unruh Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in April, he went to the defendants' Plus Check Cashing Service where he encountered inaccessible slopes in the parking lot. He alleges the inaccessible parking lot denied him full and equal access to the facility.

The plaintiff holds Edward Gow Gee, Mary Wong Gee, PLS Financial Services Inc. and Does 1-10 responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to maintain the features required to provide access to persons with disabilities.

The plaintiff seeks an order compelling defendants to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Unruh Civil Rights Act, damages of at least $4,000, attorney fees, litigation expenses and costs. He is represented by Chris Carson, Raymond Ballister Jr., Phyl Grace and Dennis Price of Center for Disability Access in San Diego.
