Member Creighton Sebra will be presenting “The Ins and Outs of SB 496” to the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) – California Bay Bridge Chapter on May 21. This program provides an overview of contractual defense and indemnity as well as a brief historical summary of California indemnity law. A detailed analysis of Senate Bill 496 and the changes to California Civil Code Section 2782.8 will also be discussed as well as various legislative efforts to mitigate the uninsured contractual defense obligation for design professionals. The last part of the program emphasizes contracting best practices.
Sebra has extensive litigation experience in the representation of clients in federal and state trial courts. Sebra worked for both a civil engineering contractor and a general building contractor as a project manager as well as a project estimator. This experience within the construction industry, combined with his experience litigating breach of contract matters and construction disputes, allows Sebra to provide invaluable service and expertise in the representation of his clients.
