DLA Piper issued the following announcement on July 3.
DLA Piper announced that Vivek Chavan has joined the firm's Real Estate practice as a partner in Northern California, based out of the San Francisco office.
Chavan represents clients across a broad range of transactional matters. He advises clients on the formation of real estate funds, as well as on their investment or sponsorship in real estate joint ventures. He also represents clients in the acquisition, disposition, financing, development, construction, operation and leasing of properties throughout the United States, with a particular focus on the industrial, retail, office, forestry, hotel and multi-tenant property sectors. His clients include REITs, TIMOs, private equity funds, developers, foreign investors and other institutional investors.
"With his broad range of experience in real estate transactional work and his reputation in the industry, Vivek will be a valuable addition to our firm," said John Sullivan, chair of DLA Piper's US Real Estate practice and co-chair of its global Real Estate practice. "He has a sophisticated practice that is regional, national and international in scope, which fits perfectly with our global real estate platform and will be of immediate benefit to our clients."
"We are committed to continuing to have a top-tier commercial Real Estate practice in Northern California, and Vivek will play a key role in that regard," said Stephen Cowan, managing partner of the firm's San Francisco office and co-chair of the firm's West Coast Real Estate practice. "Along with Jeff Diener, another real estate partner who recently joined us in San Francisco, Vivek will help us enhance the services we can provide to our national and international real estate clients."
Chavan is the latest addition to the firm's Northern California offices, which, along with Jeff Diener, have also recently welcomed Evelyn Kim, a Finance partner in San Francisco; Joseph Myszka, a Tax partner in Silicon Valley; and Tracy Shapiro, an Intellectual Property and Technology partner in San Francisco.
Chavan joins from Greenberg Traurig LLP. He received his J.D. from the University of California at Davis and his B.A. from the University of California at Riverside.
