BAKER MCKENZIE LLP: Baker McKenzie Adds State and Local Tax Partner Mike Shaikh in California

Baker & McKenzie LLP issued the following announcement on July 24.

Mike Shaikh has joined Baker McKenzie's North America Tax Practice as Partner, bringing to the Firm experience in state and local tax (SALT) controversy and planning. Mike was previously at Reed Smith.

Based in California, Mike counsels clients on tax matters related to administrative audits, corporate and personal income, property, payroll and business licenses. Mike has multistate tax experience and has extensive experience before California taxing agencies, including the California Franchise Tax Board, the California State Department of Tax and Fee Administration, California State Board of Equalization and the California Employment Development Department.

"We are excited to add Mike's expertise to our rapidly growing state and local tax practice in the US," said Melinda Phelan, Chair of Baker McKenzie's North America Tax Practice. "His extensive experience will enable him to deliver immediate value to our clients operating on the West Coast."

Active in the legal community, Mike teaches SALT law at Loyola Law School and is on the Executive Committee for the California Lawyers Association Taxation Section. He is also the former chair of both the Los Angeles County Bar Association's State and Local Tax Committee and the California State Bar's State and Local Tax Committee. Mike is a frequent author and speaker on SALT issues.

Mike received his BS from the University of Southern California, his JD from Loyola Law School and his LLM from New York University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in California, New York and Washington.
