REED SMITH LLP: Michele Haydel Gehrke named to Daily Journal's 2021 Top Labor & Employment list for fourth year in a row

Award

Reed Smith LLP issued the following announcement on July 7.

For her 2021 honor, Gehrke was highlighted for her success in a range of defense-side labor and employment litigation and counseling for airlines, and for her winning record in complex federal labor disputes involving the National Labor Relations Act and the Railway Labor Act.

For example, Gehrke prevailed in late 2020 as lead counsel for a major air carrier against breach-of-contract claims by a terminated employee. Gehrke persuaded the district court to dismiss on the grounds that the claim was time-barred. In a recent wrongful termination case for an airline, Gehrke obtained a complete dismissal at the pleading stage after an employee was terminated for inappropriate behavior.

Gehrke and her team also have been negotiating the first collective bargaining agreement between a transportation company and the Transport Workers Union over its representation of a group of employees in Silicon Valley who service a technology company’s main campus bike-share program.

Throughout her career, Gehrke has successfully defended employers against allegations of harassment, retaliation, discrimination, wrongful termination, whistleblower retaliation, and wage and hour violations. She also represents clients on traditional labor matters, including federal court litigation, union organizing campaigns, unfair labor practice charges, and during collective bargaining negotiations.

Based in the firm’s San Francisco office, Gehrke has been named by the Daily Journal to its annual list of California’s “Top Labor & Employment Lawyers” for four years in a row, from 2018-2021. In 2017, the Daily Journal selected her as one of the “Top Women Lawyers in California.”
