SAN FRANCISCO -- A man is suing a scooter company for an alleged malfunction during a test drive.
William Yee filed a complaint on June 1 in the Superior Court of California County of San Francisco against Boosted, Inc. and Does 1-20 for product liability and general negligence.
According to the complaint, Yee waited at a store to test drive a scooter by Boosted, Inc. known as b8ta. Once it was Yee's turn, two representatives gave him a helmet and let him take the scooter for a test ride, he says.
Yee was riding on Ivy Street before the intersection of Buchanan Street, when the handlebars suddenly and unexpectedly collapsed, causing him to lose control, the suit says. As a result, Yee went flying off the scooter and hit the ground hard and suffered injuries, the suit says.
After getting up, Yee walked back to the b8ta store to return the scooter. The representatives claimed they didn't know why the scooter malfunctioned. Yee alleges that defendants negligently designed, manufactured, and defectively warned of the scooter, and negligently failed to inspect scooter was assembled properly between the rides to keep the handlebars secure.
Yee seeks compensatory damages and punitive damages. Yee is represented by Joshua Wong of Heath and Yuen, APC.
