SACRAMENTO -- A lawsuit accuses the Solano County Sheriff's Office of beating a woman unconscious.

Nakia Victoria Porter and Joe Berry Powell Jr. filed a federal complaint on August 18 in the Eastern District of California against Solano County Sheriff's Office, County of Solano, Deputy Dalton McCampbell, Deputy Lisa McDowell and Sgt. Roy Stockton.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 6, 2020, deputies Dalton McCampbell and Lisa McDowell arrested and assaulted Nakia Victoria Porter,  then brutally beat her out of consciousness, without cause outside her vehicle in front of her father Joe Berry Powell, Jr., and three children - her two daughters and her niece.

After tossing Porter in the back of their vehicle, unconscious, the same deputies allegedly handcuffed and falsely imprisoned Powell in the back of another vehicle, leaving the three children alone and scared inside the vehicle at night for about an hour while deputies illegally searched the vehicle, finding no evidence of a crime.

Porter and Powell Jr. seek general, compensatory, special, punitive and exemplary damages, injunctive relief, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney's fees and cost of suit. Porter and Powell Jr. are represented by Yasin M. Almandani.
