Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders LLP issued the following announcement on Mar. 7.

Five Troutman Pepper attorneys — Justin Brown, Ethan Ostroff, Ron Raether, Angelo Stio III, and Chris Willis — have earned 2022 JD Supra Readers Choice Awards, which recognize top authors and firms for thought leadership in key topics throughout 2021. Additionally, the firm’s article, Cybersecurity: Connecticut Passes Stronger Data Breach Notification and Cybersecurity Liability Statuses, was among the most popular JD Supra publications on cybersecurity last year.

Brown, who was recognized in the wealth management category, develops creative strategies for wealth transfer, asset protection, and business succession. He also counsels fiduciaries on their duties and obligations in connection with the administration of estates and trusts. He is a co-host of “The Digital Planning Podcast,” an internationally known podcast on digital estate planning, which educates individuals about all things digital in estate planning, business planning, and estate administration.

Ostroff, who was recognized in the finance and banking category, focuses on financial services litigation and consumer law compliance counseling. He defends consumer-facing companies of all types in individual, mass action, and class action claims across the country. His litigation, compliance, and regulatory practice includes representing debt buyers, debt collectors, loan servicers, banks, fintechs, auto finance companies, specialty consumer reporting agencies, and other related consumer finance entities, in particular with the “alphabet soup” of state and federal consumer protection statutes.

Raether, partner and lead of Troutman Pepper’s Cybersecurity, Information Governance + Privacy team, was recognized for his thought leadership in cybersecurity. Raether has assisted companies in navigating federal and state privacy laws for more than 20 years. His understanding of technology led him to be involved in legal issues that cross normal law firm boundaries, including experience with data security, data privacy, patent, antitrust, and licensing and contracts.

Stio is a partner and member of Troutman Pepper’s Cybersecurity, Information Governance + Privacy team. He was recognized for his insights on data privacy. Stio represents clients in complex matters related to digital asset management, data privacy, and information security. Stio has successfully defended clients against consumer claims, in business-to-business disputes and class actions arising from security incidents and allegations of unauthorized access to data. He is currently the Co-Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association Privacy Law Section and speaks regularly on privacy and security issues.

Willis, recognized in the finance and banking category, is the co-leader of the Consumer Financial Services Regulatory team at the firm. He advises financial services institutions facing state and federal government investigations and examinations, counseling them on compliance issues including UDAP/UDAAP, credit reporting, debt collection, and fair lending, and defending them in individual and class action lawsuits brought by consumers and enforcement actions brought by government agencies.

JD Supra’s Readers Choice Awards recognize the top authors and firms read by C-suite executives, in-house counsel, media, and other professionals across the JD Supra platform based on visibility, thought leadership, and engagement. In each of the 28 categories, decided by timeliness and ongoing importance, 10 authors, out of over 65,000 who publish, were recognized for consistently high readership and engagement.
