Intuit, the company behind TurboTax, is facing a class action lawsuit led by a group of customers who accuse the company of falsely advertising identity theft protection services.
In the complaint, filed on behalf of lead plaintiff Erin Gonzalez, plaintiffs allege that Intuit and CSIdentity Corporation, which does business as IDNotify, promised to reimburse customers up to $250,000 for funds lost due to identity theft but allegedly failed to honor this commitment.
The suit claims that these misrepresentations induced customers into purchasing the companies' products and accuses them of taking advantage of consumers.
The case was filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court in October, but was removed by the defendants to federal court on Dec. 11.
The plaintiffs are seeking to expand the action to include a class of additional plaintiffs, potentially including everyone who purchased TurboTax.
They are seeking unspecified actual and punitive damages, plus attorney fees.
The plaintiffs are represented by attorneys Todd M. Friedman, Adrian R. Bacon, and Meghan E. George from the Law Offices of Todd M. Friedman P.C.
